Founded in 2001 by Jacqui Manclark.
TAMESIDE ANIMAL SHELTER is quite unique, as it is the first and only animal
shelter within the boundaries of Tameside since the late Molly Bird's, of Ashton under Lyne.
We are now in our 8th year of serving the community and beyond, helping with the plight of unwanted,
neglected and abandoned animals.

Our shelter began its life as a barren piece of land, and gradually, when funds allowed
we have added new custom built cat pens, dog runs, and also facilities for rabbits, ferrets and
other small animals.
We are well supported within our community, and all staff and volunteers are proud of
our shelter. I have had over fifteen years experience in animal welfare, yet still learn
each day, for our animals never fail to amaze us. Many survive against all the odds,
when almost all hope is lost they rally round and go on to lead happy and healthy lives.
To have played a part in this journey is all the satisfaction we need.
Our aims are to
encourage neutering/spaying
administer medical treatment for any needy animal
to rehome every animal with care
thus ensuring to the best of our ability that the next home will be theirs for the rest of their lives.
As such, we insist on pre-home visits and if our criteria is not reached, we will wait until a suitable owner is found.
The Cattery

WE NEVER PUT A HEALTHY ANIMAL TO SLEEP.
Many ask how they can become involved in animal welfare work, what qualifications do they need.
It is obvious that study into animal behaviour and care are a huge advantage, but without compassion all the
degrees in the world are of little use, and it is this which makes a good animal welfare officer.
Our shelter relies on public donations, and if you feel you would like to support your local animal shelter
the information on the following pages will tell you how you can help us.
Our opening times are 11-5 each day including weekends.
Looking forward to seeing you!!!
